"...helping students learn to learn and, more importantly, learn to think."

-Woodie Flowers

Support CRUSH 1011 at NO COST to YOU!

Would you like to give money to a great cause and have it cost you absolutely nothing? This is your chance to direct some of your state income tax to a good project of your choice at no additional tax cost to you. That's right, we get some of your tax money, but you pay no extra tax - it just comes to us instead of Arizona.

For several years the Arizona income tax law has allowed you take a tax credit for donations made to a public school, including charter schools, in support of extra-curricular activities. For 2006 it can be up to $400 for a couple filing jointly, or $200 for an individual. We would like to encourage you to make this contribution to Sonoran Science Academy and designate it for our competitive robotics team, CRUSH 1011. You will be supporting an exciting activity that helps students learn about mechanical design and construction, electronics, computer programming, project management, and more.

In addition, since Sonoran Science Academy is a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization, you should also claim the amount of your donation on your Federal tax return along with any other charitable contributions, and take a tax deduction for the charitable contributions total.

What is the money used for?
Your contribution supports FIRST Team 1011 (Team CRUSH), which is Sonoran Science Academy's competitive robotics team. Generally, the money goes to materials and parts used for robot construction, shop equipment and tools, team uniforms, competition fees, and team travel expenses. More information is available on the team website:

How do I contribute?
Make a check payable to Sonoran Science Academy and write "robotics tax credit" in the memo. You may fill out the simple form below called "Arizona School Tax Credit and SSA" and provide it with the check in order to receive a receipt for the contribution in January. Or just print this page and fill in the small form at the bottom. Mail or bring to:
Sonoran Science Academy
2255 West Ina Road

Tucson, Arizona 85741

Telephone: (520) 797-9836

The school is at the SW corner of Ina and La Cholla.

How do I claim the tax credit?
Include Form 322 (see link below) when you file your Arizona state income tax return. Your tax will be reduced by the amount of the contribution, up to the limit ($400 or $200). The credit can either increase your refund or decrease your amount owed, but in no case will make your total tax less than zero. If your total tax is less than the limit, you should only contribute up to the amount of your total tax.

Where can I find more information?
The information and forms listed below are for tax year 2005, but will be essentially the same as 2006 forms available after the first of the year.  Look for the same form and publication numbers at http://www.revenue.state.az.us/.
